To vote for a video, you must first have an account on YouTube, which is where contest participants upload their videos. Here is how to sign up for an account:
1. Go to www.youtube.com.
2. Click on “Sign Up” at the top of the page.
3. Fill in the fields under “Create Your YouTube Account.”
- You will probably want to leave Account Type set to “standard.”
- Type in your e-mail address,
- Select a username - this is the name that you will use to log in to YouTube next time you visit, and it will be the name associated with all of your activity on YouTube.
- Choose a password and type it into the two fields.
- Fill in your location, gender and date of birth (nobody can identify you with this information; it is private)
- Where it says “Verification,” type in the word beneath the field. This is an image that you must type to prove you are an actual person. Might sound weird that a non-person would try to sign up, but it happens.
- If you don’t want to receive the “Broadcast Yourself” e-mail from YouTube, uncheck the box.
- Leave the box checked where it says that you agree to the terms of use and privacy policy.
4. Click on “Sign up.”
5. Check your e-mail. YouTube will send you a verification e-mail.
6. Click on “Confirm your e-mail” within the e-mail that was sent to you. If there is no link, you can paste the URL into your browser (YouTube provides instructions within the e-mail.)
That’s it! You now have an account on YouTube. To vote for a video on Walken the Walk, come back to www.WalkenTheWalk.com and follow these instructions:
1. Find the video that you wish to vote for. You might need to scroll down a little to find it.
2. Click on the link that says “Click here” beneath the video (it’s in the sentence that says “To vote for this video on YouTube, click here.”
3. A new browser window will open when you click on the link.
4. You will see the video that you have chosen to vote for. Beneath the video is the word “Rate” and next to it are some stars. Some of the stars might be red and some white, all of the stars might be red, or all of the stars might be white. For instance, if a video has three red stars and two white stars, that means people who watched it have given it three stars (the votes are averaged).
5. You may vote for the video by clicking on a star. If you click on the fifth star (the last one in the row), that means you really want that video to win. Five stars is the most a video can get.
6. If you really don’t like a video, you can click on the first star. This does not give the video one vote; this means that you really don’t like it.
7. The video with the highest average will win. If everybody gives a video five stars, that video has a good chance of winning. If everybody gives a video one or two stars, it probably will not win. As long as a video receives at least 100 votes, it does not matter how many people vote for a particular video; it just needs to have the highest average.
